Lady Gaga and Elton John are teaming up, and not just in the recording studio. The music icons are releasing a collection at Macy’s that’s got a charity-driven, empowerment-fostering twist.
The name of the limited-edition line, Love Bravery, is meant to “inspire compassion and combat prejudice” through clothing and accessories.
The limited edition collection has shirts, outerwear, clutches, backpacks, scarves, keychains, pins, skateboards and even speakers. The collection will have vibrant yet minimal graphic prints that fuse both the artists’ musical and personal style.
Speaking about her inspiration and idea behind the line, Gaga said, “It’s an honour to team up with Sir Elton John to create this line with Macy’s. We need to make the world a kinder and braver place, where men and women everywhere are empowered to live with compassion.” Sir Elton John further added, “I love the idea of fusing who you are on the inside – your passions and dreams – with what you wear on the outside. Love Bravery is about the compassion on the inside to understand someone’s fears, and the bravery on the outside to stand up for them, and for yourself.”
Here’s a quick sneak peak of pieces that will be available as a part of the collection:
I for one cant wait to get my hands on this collection. What about you?
In the winter of 2014, Ralph Lauren received major backlash for the uniform he had designed for the American Olympic team.
Ralph Lauren described the looks as “classic silhouettes in a timeless palette,” but everyone found something to pick on- while some commented the uniform was very European and didn’t embody Americana, what most people were upset about is they were manufactured in China.
The same controversy erupted in 2008 when Reuters reported that Chinese tailors had a hand in Ralph Lauren’s U.S. uniforms for the Beijing Olympics. Unsurprisingly, the same discussion over American manufacturing and lack of patriotism ensued.
Nanette Lepore, a strong advocate of American-based manufacturing and New York City’s Garment Center, lashed out saying “Why shouldn’t we have pride not only in the American athletes but in the American manufacturers and laborers who are the backbone of our country?”
With the countdown to the 2016 Summer Games in Rio already on – August 5th to be precise. To mark it, the U.S. Olympic Committee and Polo Ralph Lauren, the official outfitter of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams, five games running, are today unveiling Team USA’s Closing Ceremony apparel. (The Opening Ceremony uniforms are unveiled closer to the Games.)
While i cant wait to see what he has in mind for the team, I hope he’s learnt his lesson! Do you think it is as big a deal as it was made out to be? Let me know if the comments below!
Its very hard to put in to words exactly how exciting fashion week is, especially in Milan. The city is buzzing with designers, models, bloggers amongst the locals.
Needless to say I was very very excited to attend the Emporio Armani show and watch Mr. Armani’s creations down the runway!
And boy, was i blown away – The maestro had stuck the delicate balance of Quirky an elegant like no one else has!
On a black background more often than on a white one, a visual explosion of digital signs and designs, including a sectioned smile, and multi-coloured ‘scratches’.
Clean lines and clear shapes. Silhouetted, rounded shoulders for high-tech heroines.
Short jumpsuits with short trousers that look like skirts, slim trousers, and mini-but-not-micro skirts
Sleek shoes with covered heels add feminine flair and lengthen the leg. Sparkle-galore lends a three-dimensional touch to evening wear.
I for one, cannot wait to get my hands on this collection! Tell me what your favorite look was in the comments below!
Each season, Haute Couture almost always showcases fascinating looks that are painstakingly assembled where designers are constantly pushing the boundaries. This time was no different.
At Viktor & Rolf, white shirts acted as a canvas for larger-than-life Picasso paintings that towered over the heads of modelt. Calling garments walking sculptures, the collection showcased wearable art, literally!
The Armani Privé runway saw ultra-feminine waves and ruffles in sheer weightless organza. Mauve dominated the runway along with shades of violet, lavender and silver.
Chanel’s eco-inspired outdoor show was nothing less than spectacular. Along with the Karl Lagerfeld’s signature tulle and tweed, the collection included structured silhouettes with wood chips and discs.
On the other hand, Atelier Versace’s show featured colorblocking and cutout gowns with braided bodices as against more traditional couture silhouettes.
Jean Paul Gaultier recreated the 80’s discotheques and its fashion with bright colors, head-to-toe embellishments, power shoulder and oversized coats.
And at my personal favorite, Elie Saab, India was the backdrop to showcase true opulence and extravaganza. The collection saw everything from Salwar Kameers and Nehru collar to Lehengas and Sarees. Watch the show here –
Last week, one of my favorite menswear designers Sir Paul Smith received France’s highest honor, recognizing his “indelible mark on French fashion”
The British designer was presented with the Légion d’Honneur – the highest distinction in France – by the French Ambassador, Sylvie Bermann, during a ceremony at the French Residence in London. On average only 10 Brits receive a Légion d’honneur each year.
In his twenties Paul Smith opened a tiny shop in Nottingham in 1970, called Paul Smith Vetements pour Hommes, and then six years later he showed his first menswear collection in Paris. He continued to have a strong connection with Paris throughout his career and still regularly shows his menswear collection in Paris Fashion Week.
Congratulations Sir Paul, You’ve really out done yourself!
Such an honor to meet the man himself!
